April Mix: "Sakura"

Hello Neverrain listeners,
I am pleased to bring you a special two-hour set this month, entitled "Sakura", which was recorded in the United States and mastered in Kyoto, Japan. I am currently travelling on business and speaking in Tokyo this week...yet I managed to get the set recorded before I left the United States. All post-production for the mix was completed in Japan.
Also noteworthy, is that this mix features two new tracks written by myself; "Glimmer" and "Forward". I hope they add a different dimension to the sound of the set.
This month's track-selection has a lot of variety in it, which makes it a very dynamic mix, but still fits into my usual progressive style. Overall the mix ranges from trancey breakbeats, to a few funky progressive tracks, and then migrates toward some deeper tech-trance. This is one of my more patient mixes, with long transitions between tracks and greater play-time of individual songs.
**Note: Since the original posting of the mix, I have received many comments & emails regarding the meaning of the word "Sakura"...so I thought I would illuminate what Sakura actualy means. Sakura is a type of fragile Japanese cherry blossom, which blooms for a very short period of time in Spring. Normally, it is just a week to ten days before all of the blossoms are carried away by the wind. During this short time the land is covered with the colors and scent of the fragile cherry blooms. The intense beauty and short time span have associated cherry blossoms with spiritual and philosophical ideas such as the beauty and fragility of human life. It also represents a type of rebirth. These are ideas & feelings that I try to convey through all of my mixes. At the moment, the Sakura are in bloom in downtown Tokyo, and other parts of Japan...so I have been able to experience the rebirth first-hand. At one point during my stay here, Sakura blossoms were raining down all around the vehicle I was in, nearly turning the entire sky a magenta color. It was quite a surreal moment.
Please, play this mix loud, and enjoy the sounds.

Aweswome composition Eric, what are you in Japan for?, if I may ask. I know you're interested in Japan. Tokyo is a fantastic place, especially in the evening.
I love this mix.

Smooth mix Eric - it really picks up a lot of beat and smoothens out again over a short interval - definitely like it. Sakura? Wondering what's behind the name, fill us in on those Japanese secrets.

Very, very nice work. I'm also wondering about the name, its meanings and/or origin. Anyway, superb job.

"mastered in Kyoto, Japan"
That's what i thought Eric, i knew that sound HAD to have been produced and mastered in Japan and nowheres else.
I thought to myself "man, thats some Japanese production right there, i bet he had it mastered in Tokyo!!"
Makes all the difference in the world.

Very nice mix. Currently stationed in Japan in the Navy. I've been to the Cherry Blossom Festival the alst two years and I have to say this mix gives the same exact feeling as walking among the sakura trees themselves. Very nice mix, and as Marinak stated, on par with Invisible. Keep up the good work.

Great mixes Eric!
Iv'e seen here in México how your work at 2Advanced Studios has influenced tv comercials, web and print design, specifically the inspiration that came from V 3.0, that was unique! Hopefully your music will someday be just as influenciall as 2A.
Anyway, I also wanted to tell you that perhaps you don't have to mix once a month. Maybe your music could be even better if you gave every mix more time... Cuality over cuantity. Art can't (shouldn't) be rushed, right?
Thank you for being an inspiration.

Sweeeeet mix.
Don't act like you came here on business, we all know you were just partying in Shibuya for a week. :) It's a bummer that 2A himself was in my backyard and I didn't know it, that would've been a good chance for an autograph. I'm stationed up by Aomori in the Hachinohe area. It'd be really cool if 2A sent me on a photography expedition in the mountains of Northern Japan *wink nudge*
Keep on rockin' man!

One more question, what Track Samples the Breaks Line from
"Numb" by Meat Katie?

Hey Eric I like this mix alot its pretty awesome. I listen to this going on a trip today and I played it twice and it was really good. Oh I like the effects on 40 minutes into the song when it sounds like techno drums coming down.
