December Mix: "Glisten"

Right on time, December 1st, 2005. A new mix.

December has always been an introspective month for me. The weather does something to me, makes me look inside myself and re-evaluate where I am in life and what I am doing. This is no different in my design career than it is in my relationship with writing and mixing music. So this month I present a second, special installment to the Neverrain site.

This mix is a winding progression of intelligent breaks, funky trance, and deep, melodic progressive house...very reflective of my mood this month. What is interesting to me about this mix is that it contains many serious undertones of danger which eventually emerge into light. Just when you think the sound is getting very dark, it veers into something epic or funky as though the darkness is being overcome by melodic, almost glistening, sounds that represent the light.

So, please sit back and relax for the next hour or so, and enjoy the sounds of "Glisten", for December 2005.

"What is interesting to me about this mix is that it contains many serious undertones of danger which eventually emerge into light. "

I disagree.. I thought the sounds started off light, but then veered into danger.

    I'm like that too Eric!!

But, I'm more introspective in September... I think when the green palm trees change for the coming seasons, it just makes me think a lot...

I'm very curious about your mixes, so I downloaded both, november and december.

PS: why don't you combine your great design skills with CSS design?

I love listening to "Glisten" I have to say it is awsome. I listen to a lot of Christopher Lawrence stuff, and other trance, techno, break music which all sounds a like sometimes. Eric, you have something man - yours is truly unique yet it does not re-invent the trance sound. I have been inspired by you since 2AD v1 on the design side. And I branched off from your wizardry in design to something of my own. The music is new to me, I knew you use to DJ - but I have never heard a full length audio mix.

    Awsome work.

    nice...
though not something i could listen for hours, but still kinda cool...

the Synergy is your best track i think, btw...

    Posted by: TONIC | December 13, 2005 06:44 AM

I have to agree with TONIC, synergy is so alive, so filled with energy. The best yet. I can't wait to see V5 and see if it will stand up to Fantasy Interactive. I am sure it will, Eric man you and Shane and the crew I think got Aliens in your head. Where do you come up with these things.

Personally you have taught me to be a leader in the field of design, not a follower. I get my ideas from movies, things I see day to day driving in the city. I love Science Fiction movies and video games I pull my ideas from those elements and fuse it with real world.

Just curious: Do you have a little Alien in your brain?

    Keep up the great work.

    Posted by: Andre | December 13, 2005 07:33 AM

Eric man, you rule the planet! You and Pixelranger are the best of the best, rulers of the web. The designs that 2A come out with are simply amazing! Always pushing the boundaries and reinventing new ideas, the collaboration at the studio must be such an experience for every site! Glisten was unbelievable, i've been playing it all week in my room with the 2A site open on both my dual monitors. I have gotten all of your desktops on full size posters all over my room, i even got the picture of you and the rest of the partners as a 6x4 feet colored poster on my door. I hope someday you can sign it for me, and i would lvoe to meet Pixelranger someday, he is also my idol. I want to start a 2advanced fan club site, i hope you will allow me to do so, i wouldnt want to run into any legal issues. I would like to hang out someday, if ever i am in the Los Angeles area. I would really enjoy listening to you talk, teaching me about your secrets, i want to be a web designer like you someday. I want to be popular like you, have my work in all the magazines, wishful thinking. If i send you posters, would you sign them? I have all the 2a tshirts as well, how can i buy some that are autographed? Keep up the good work, you are my heroes and incredible web innovators. Say hello to Pixelranger, he is another one of my idols.

    Eric,

Please look into this. I attempted to validate the CSS on your website and an error had occured: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=neverrain.com&usermedium=all

You have been an inspiration to me with the work as you pour much of your soul into it. Just wanted to let you know about the CSS error so you can fix these problems. Great mixes by the way man.

    Eric,

I have discovered additional problems using the W3C validator (a very reliable functon)... you can see the specefics breakdown here: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fneverrain.com

With Internet 2.0 proliferating it is very important for the precision of importants sites like this to set the example for those who follow the leaders into the future of the web. I will check back in a week to discover if these small problems have been corrected for better precisions.

There was a comment in one of the earlier posts Eric.."PS: why don't you combine your great design skills with CSS design?"

I think this fix will answer this fella with results and proper precision

    You've been my inspiration always!
    Love your work.

    Posted by: Min | December 14, 2005 11:39 AM

Eric - What the HELL is that Troy guy talking about??? IDIOT!! Too many lameo XHTML / CSS / don't use frickin tables cause they're not accessible clowns out there. Seriously, if you need that accessiblity crap you really have no business using the computer anyway.

You and me dogg - we'll stick to the good shizznit - robots, 3D, whatever - THE FUTURE MAN! Screw all these other clowns.

You got some sick designers over there at 2A man - they come up with the shizzle!! I keep thinking you guys are going to lose your touch but no way...everything looks the same still - just like back in '99. How do you keep it up?? Amazing!!!

Hey Eric, very nicely done. The overall feel of this mix is very epic and smooth. The different sounds and styles are mixed flawlessly. Very nice work.

P.S. - The GB Micro site is also very slick. I love the 3D aspects your team has been incorporating lately.

    Posted by: Ryan | December 15, 2005 09:42 PM

Hey Eric! Been a fan of 2A for quite some time. Yeah, I am another dork who orders your tshirts. I've been into electronic music for years...since 14 or so. I like what you're doing, it's cool to see your progression from mix to mix. Im mostly a trance addict. I like it, though I know you can better. I guess you get this sort of thing a lot but honestly you're living my dream. We seem to have similar passions..wish we could be buddies (as im sure most people think). Thanks for the mix! Keep on shining and kickin' ass!

Wow, this mix is awesome! I was just stopping by 2A.com to see if you'd posted a sneak peek of V5, and spotted this link to Neverrain. You are truly an amazingly creative person, it's like your brain is two right halves. I've been a huge fan of yours since 2001 or so, and will be for a long time to come. Keep on rockin' man.

Frankly, it's about time the world get to hear the way you intrepret this music. Great way to take it to the next level. I'd love to hear you mix in "Kaleidoscope - Eyal" on the next one.
